The engagement session is one of the most fun parts of the wedding planning process! It gives the couple and I the opportunity to spend some time getting to know each other, my work flow, and how the two of you interact. This helps make the wedding day run more smoothly and comfortably. One of my favorite parts of the wedding day is feeling like I'm photographing two of my friends and I'm just a part of the big celebration.
Below I've listed a few tips that will help you plan for your engagement session so we can capture photos that are natural, fun and represent you as a couple.
Styling Tips for Her
Don't be afraid to dress up! If you don't currently own a beautiful piece that your excited to wear consider renting an evening gown. Rent The Runway has tons of affordable options and AMAZING customer service! I have used them more times than I can count for special events.
Coordinate your outfits, don't match. Choosing lighter and more muted tones help draw the attention to your faces and create timeless images. When coordinating outfits each individual should aim to wear a different dominant color within a similar color palette.
Go Pro! With professional hair and makeup. This removes the stress of getting ready and gives you that extra boost of confidence in front of the camera!
Styling Tips for Him
A well-tailored suit is always a striking look for men. Solid shades of grey or navy compliment most women's outfits.
Laying looks brings dimension and visual interest to your photos. Blazers, vests and coats can up the level to any look. For extra interest a tie, bow tie, pocket square, colored socks, belt or watch brings even more interest to the image.
Long pants and closed-toe shoes are recommended to keep the attention on the face and also look the most sophisticated and masculine.
Choosing the Right Location
Thinks outside the box! Is there a place that is meaningful to you? A favorite restaurant, coffee shop, ice cream parlor, or brewery?
If nature if your preferred location, plan to bring a pair of walking shoes that you don't mind getting dirty and even some bug spray!
Most importantly....have FUN! This is not meant to be stressful. I will do all the directing, you just show up looking fabulous!
